Irvin's Arrival The hold up that has prevented Bruce Irvin from arriving in Morgantown, enrolling at WVU and joining the football appears it will end tomorrow.
![]() “I’m going to be there no later than tomorrow,” Irvin told EERSports.com. “I got to handle something, some financial problems. My academics are good. It’s just a little difficulty with another issue.” Last Wednesday, Irvin left his hometown of Stone Mountain, Ga., with his brother, Chad Allen, who also plans to enroll at WVU. Irvin said the two have been in Baltimore since then, and that he’s maintained contact with WVU head coach Bill Stewart. “I’ve been talking to everybody,” Irvin said. “We’re getting it handled. I’ll be enrolled tomorrow. It’s about to work out.” Irvin, 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, is one of the most heralded players in the 2010 signing class, for WVU. He’s already signed a National Letter of Intent. Bell Says he won't visit Marshall Belle Glade, Fla., safety Travis Bell was among the WVU recruits most affected by the departures of former assistant Doc Holliday, now head coach at Marshall, and graduate assistant JaJuan Seider, who followed Holliday to become running backs coach. Immediately following the news of Holliday being named head coach of The Thundering Herd, Bell explained that he was re-opening his recruitment and taking a look around to make sure WVU was still the best fit for him. Considering his close relationship to both Holliday and Seider, Marshall became a logical destination that Bell would potentially consider. However, it appears that possibility has not come to fruition. Reports that Bell intended to visit Marshall this weekend are false, Bell explained. “Says who?,” Bell asked when posed the question about the reported coming visit. “I’m not going there.” Bell said that he is solid with WVU and that he is not taking anymore recruiting visits. Fred Pickett, a wide receiver from Pahokee, Fla., who is also verbally committed to the Mountaineers, was also believed to be visiting Marshall. Pickett has been unreachable for comment since Holliday left WVU and Bell did not know of Pickett’s intentions either. “I don’t really talk to Fred, so I don’t know,” Bell said. UT No Longer a Factor for Robey Frostproof, Fla., corner back Nickell Robey, currently a Georgia commit, is also heavily considering Tennessee and West Virginia. News that Lane Kiffin resigned at UT and was named the head coach at Southern Cal on Wednesday was surprising to everyone, Robey included. “It was shocking, but it didn’t hurt me any,” Robey said via text message, “because I haven’t made any commitments, so I’m just taking it slow. But, I’m excited about the WVU visit.” Robey has scheduled an official visit to WVU, on Jan. 22. Considering UT is still undergoing its search for a head coach, Robey is no longer considering the Vols. “Not right now because they don’t have a coach or anything,” he said via text message. Brunetti -- star quarterback, ace recruiter By now, it’s obvious Memphis quarterback Barry Brunetti is one of the Mountaineers top recruit prospects in the 2010 signing class. What makes Brunetti even more valuable is how he is already actively recruiting other prized prep stars to follow him to WVU. Brunetti recently explained how he recruited Latwan Anderson, a star-in-the-making safety prospect from Ohio, who verbally pledged to WVU at the U.S. Army All-American game last Saturday, alongside Brunetti, in San Antonio. WVU fans may be delighted to learn that Brunetti is persuading Ivan McCartney, an ESPNU 150-rated wide receiver from Miramar, Fla., to sign with WVU. “I just got off the phone with Ivan McCartney,” Brunetti said, earlier this week. “He’s going to be a signing day guy. West Virginia and Miami (Fla.) are the ones he’s looking at.” Brunetti said McCartney plans on announcing his commitment right around when the Super Bowl will be played. The game will take place on Feb. 7, in Miami. WVU Among Early Offers for Florida Standout
Wayne Lyons has already had an active early junior season. The standout defensive player from Dillard High School in Oakland Park, Florida claims he is already up to 14 offers, including an offer from Florida State. Wayne attended the Army under classmen combine and walked away with defensive MVP honors. He was also named first team all combine for under classmen at the event. NoleInsider caught up with Wayne to catch up on the latest.
"Well I just spoke with coach Eddie Gran yesterday actually. I called him, he also came by my school last week right before I left for the combine. I really like coach Gran, he offered me when he was at Tennessee, but also got in contact with me when he went to FSU. He offered me very soon after his arrival. I love talking to him, he really makes recruiting seem like magic. I really like FSU too. It's close to home. My cousins, uncles, and girlfriend are all big fams. My girlfriends' brother is going there now." At this juncture Wayne is holding offers from schools such as: FSU, Stanford, Notre Dame, Tennessee, West Virginia, Pitt, Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Duke, Western Kentucky, and Vandy to name a few. He has no early leaders in this process however and claims he is open at this time. "I have no leaders right now at all. Right now I would say that I am hearing the most from Stanford, Tennessee and Florida State are pretty heavy, and Alabama as well. With Notre Dame they were recruiting me very hard, but I have not heard from the new staff at all. Oregon, LSU, and Clemson all have shown some interest via mail, but I'd like to hear more from them," said Lyons. Wayne went on to discuss the skills that are attracting this early attention. "I think I'm real good at making hits. My coverage is always getting better, but remains something I want to work on. I'm also great at jamming the receivers at the line, but want to improve my soft zone coverage. I'm currently 6'1" 185 lbs and most schools are recruiting me as a safety. I'm in no rush for an early decision, and I'm pretty sure I'll take all 5 official visits, I'm going to wait to commit." |
