Latwan Anderson planned on delivering news of his commitment this coming weekend, but after talking with his parents and with his coach, Ted Ginn, Sr., at Glenville High School (Cleveland, Ohio), those plans changed.
“I was actually going to do it this Saturday,” he told EerSports.com on Tuesday night. “My coach wants me to take my visits and have a little fun with it.”
Anderson pared his list of dozens of scholarship offers to five finalists. “Ohio State, West Virginia, Georgia, Miami and Cincinnati,” he said.
“It was a certain school that I was thinking I was going to go to,” said Anderson. “My parents and my coach just want me to be sure. I haven’t really said much to people.”
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound player is ranked the No. 32 overall safety in the 2010 class and received an ESPN Scouts Inc grade of 78.
Ginn, Sr. is a household name among Ohio high school football ranks having coached players from Glenville such as former Ohio State quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner and current Baltimore Raven Troy Smith, as well as his own son, Ted Ginn, Jr., who was also an OSU star who is now with the Miami Dolphins.
A logical destination for Anderson would be to wind up with the Buckeyes as Smith and Ginn, Jr., did. Anderson has not yet visited OSU, but said, “I was supposed to go this Saturday, but they changed it to December.” And of course, he also revealed he planned on making his commitment this coming Saturday.
Yet in still, Anderson declined to say where he was originally planning to commit come this weekend. “I really prefer not to say.”
On the WVU side of things, Anderson said he does have an official visit planned for either Oct. 17 or Oct. 24, the first being when the Mountaineers host Marshall, the latter is a home date against Connecticut. He is yet to take any official visits this fall.
“This will be the first.”
Anderson has been to WVU unofficially on a few occasions, namely, during WVU’s last spring game back in April.
Anderson explained Tennessee has “come into the picture a little bit” but said he has not scheduled any official visit dates except for WVU and OSU. “No, not yet,” he said.
WVU offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen has been recruiting Anderson for the Mountaineers. “I call him usually. He calls me every now and then. I just got off the phone with Mullen today.
“He’s been up here, but I don’t think he’s been up for a game yet.”
Anderson plans on studying education in college and said a priority in picking a school will come down to which candidate has “an academic situation that fits my style of learning”.
He also sees an opportunity for an early chance at playing time if he ends up signing with the Mountaineers.
“I could possibly start as soon as I get there on either side of the ball,” said Anderson.
Besides excelling at safety, Anderson said he is a Percy Harvin-like running back and slot receiver who can also line up and run the wildcat offense.
After Anderson has taken his official visits, two of which are planned at this time, he plans on announcing his commitment.
“My dad always says I’ll know when it’s the right time. I’ll just know where I want to go,” he said.
