Odom Delays Decision, One School Eliminated

Earlier this week recruit Rod Odom had indicated that he was inching closer to a decision and could pull the trigger as soon as Monday. That has changed, although Odom has eliminated a school. Odom told WSR’s Erik Thompson on Sunday morning that he has delayed a decision because he still had “things to talk over about with family.”

The 6-8 forward just tripped to Boston College and the Wildcats and Eagles are still in good shape, as are West Virginia and Vanderbilt.

One school is no longer in the running. Harvard has been eliminated due to financial reasons. The Ivy League school does not offer athletic scholarships and although they have offered a financial aid package, it was not nearly enough for the Odom family who have two other children enrolled in private school.

“When I saw that number, we automatically knew that compared to the full-ride scholarships, the feasibility of what the aid set—we just weren’t going to be able to do,” Odom’s father told the Harvard Crimson sports blog.

While Odom had told WSR that he wanted to make a decision soon, his father said that it isn’t the first time he has thought he was close.

“I’ve been through this before with him, where he says he’ll make a decision, and it ends up being a whole three months or four months,” Odom’s father also told the Harvard student paper.

Odom is ESPN.com’s #14 small forward and is praised for his “very high basketball I.Q.” in their evaluations.
